Yeah. It's mainly a response to my frustration over spending hours crafting the perfect resume, and then half the online job carts requiring me to manually enter work and education information despite also allowing me to upload a resume.

Why not have an option to upload a resume in XML format and then automatically fill in those areas? Some job carts fill things in from the resume, but never perfectly.

Of course, that would put non-technical people at a disadvantage. But it would be fairly easy to make an application that lets people enter their information, and outputs an XML version.

The main problem would be getting the standard to catch on.

That'd be sweet! That would be great for an online resume, store it in XML (or valid HTML), and have different 'skins' for it.

Nice! I've been thinking for ages about putting my resume in XML format, because why not? Now I wonder if it might not be fun to have a bunch of different versions. Hopefully, I'll ace this upcoming interview and not have to think about my resume again for years.
